Arguing with stupid people is like trying to kill the mosquito on your cheek. You may or may not kill it, but you will slap yourself.
How many times have you found yourself in a situation where you are arguing a topic that is pointless, with another party?
No matter how many times we reprimand ourselves from having done this in the past, we inevitably find ourselves once again, doing the same pointless task.
When does it become ingrained within us to recognize that we are not going to be able to prevail, and that our best move is to acquiesce and bow out of the conversation?
To find ourselves continually bantering words with another human being, who is not arguing with logic, is a complete and total waste of time and is burning precious moments of our life that could be spent on anything that is more interesting, productive, or satisfying.
Life is a delicate balance of having interesting conversations with worthy individuals who are capable of understanding the topics we are talking about, and are desirous of exchanging interesting information, such that both parties benefit from the discourse.
I personally enjoy having conversations with people who have a disparate perspective than that of my own, because in the course of hearing what they have to say, I am often times educated and find myself better for having had the discussion.
Yet, I still find myself getting lured into discussions that are pointless, and I have made it a policy to recognize this earlier than I used to, so that I might be able to politely find a way to terminate the discussion.
In many cases, the fastest way to do this, is to just allow them to believe that they are correct, and thank them for the discussion.
If you try and have the last word in one of these conversations, the conversation will never end.
It is far wiser to keep one’s mouth closed and be thought a fool, then to open it and confirm it.
Happy Thursday!
