People often say, with pride, ‘I’m not interested in politics.’ They had might as well say, ‘I’m not interested in my standard of living, my health, my job, my rights, my freedoms, my future, or any future.’ If we mean to keep any control over our world and lives, we must be interested in politics.
MARTHA GELLHORN
Do you pay attention to politics?
It is unquestionably becoming such a distasteful subject, that it is easy for the average person to shut out the stimuli and make it disappear from their day to day engagements.
With each political event, it is easy to feel as if our involvement in the topic is irrelevant and therefore unnecessary, but that could hardly be the case.
Those who do not study history doom the rest of us to repeat it.
So as America continues to descend deeper into the overall world of ignorance, there are forces who have their eyes on the prize of our nation, with full expectation, and intent to exploit that to their greatest benefit, independent of any concern or regard for what might be in the best interests of our citizens.
In fact, they do not wish for you to be paying attention, and they are determinedly working to provide caustic stimuli to include a majority of unconcerned citizens from wanting to even pay attention, because the stakes are so high.
They are determined to succeed, regardless of any substantial damage that they will cause to any individual, nation, or the world at large.
Yet, those who proclaim not to be interested in politics, may very well be the first to complain about rising gas prices, food, or specific laws that are restricting business.
I found the subject of Politics, as well as Civics, incredibly boring in school, and it was not until I was coming close to draft age, as the Vietnam war was raging, that I really started to pay attention to what was happening on the political scene. My friends’ older brothers were being shipped home in body bags. Could that be me?
From that point forward, it has become compulsory for me to watch closely and, as circumstances in the United States, and the rest of the world, grow evermore tense, and politically disheveled, my attention has grown considerably more myopic.
We live in a time where we cannot afford to remain complacent on these topics, independent of whether or not you find the topics boring or not worth your time.
There is such a large percentage of indifferent individuals in the United States alone, as to dramatically sway the election if they were galvanized and motivated to take a more active role.
When you see all of the foreign countries buying ads in our social media, and distributing clearly false propaganda to sway the opinion of ignorant Americans, you should feel outraged at the interference that they are playing in our free elections but equally frustrated by the fact that so many people will not take the time to educate themselves enough to participate properly in the equation.
Happy Monday!
