One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer invested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.
CARL SAGAN
Have you ever been bamboozled?
When someone creates a false scenario or an alternate reality, in which true facts are clouded by circumstances that make those facts less readily apparent, or alternately, when fake circumstances and verbiage are perpetuated to distract us from focusing on the truth, we are prone to being bamboozled.
We are all susceptible to being made to believe or being led to believe something that is patently false.
When this happens, the perpetrator of the lie witnesses our gullibility, and expands upon their ruse, making us evermore susceptible to whatever false scenario they are working to perpetrate upon us and others.
In this vulnerable position, we become all the more entranced in that which they have already initiated and continue to perpetuate in our presence.
This then forms a vicious spiral cycle of unfortunate continuity of alternate reality in which we have already vested our personal belief, and which gives us a continuous reason to discount any reports or information to the contrary.
When we are riding this incredible wave of false belief, others may watch us with a large degree of incredulity in which they can very clearly see the truth, but their efforts to awaken us out of the spell that has been perported upon us is for the most part, met with deaf ears… for we have grown so certain of our newfound belief, that with each and every day it becomes all the more unshakable.
Our consistent efforts towards whatever we have been led to believe continue to accrue in the wasted efforts column for the entire foundation upon which we have been made to believe, was false in the first place.
These almost inevitably lead to substantial disappointment, and often times leave us in a position of tremendous personal or professional vulnerability. When we are finally forced to reconcile ourselves to the fact that the tenets upon which we have based our efforts, were counterfeit in the first place, we are left with a huge chasm upon which we must travel in order to regroup with the reality we had left behind.
Open your eyes and ears. Pay attention. Seek reality.
Happy Thursday!
