For millions of years, mankind lived just like the animals. Then something happened which unleashed the power of our imagination. We learned to talk and we learned to listen.
STEPHEN HAWKING
Did imagination exist prior to language?
If we were non-communicative through anything other than gestures and other basic sounds or through illustration using the most rudimentary instruments, how would imagination ultimately reveal itself?
As a society, we are entirely built on the shoulders of thousands of years of imagination, expressed in every possible and conceivable manner.
Imagination is the core component to civilization and is one of the cornerstones of what has transformed our planet in the last 10,000 years.
When humanity is capable of sharing respective ideas with one another, they are all the more able to compare and contrast those which makes sense and those which are less likely to come to fruition.
In our thirst for expansion in every conceivable use of the word, humanity has leveraged its greatest single asset, and that is the ability to both imagine and intelligently communicate that which has been dreamt up.
When a society reaches a pinnacle of its potential growth it becomes entirely dependent upon the imagination of its citizens to search deep within and summon their greatest potential experiences to conjure the future through whatever resources lay at their disposal.
Inevitably, the most powerful and most influential component to such an expansion must rest on the shoulders of the imagination of those who are ready, willing and capable of leveraging that resource to the purpose that has been established.
When we take breaks from our daily lives, we are more than likely expending our free time enjoying a realm that stems from the imagination of others.
This may come through any form of entertainment, media or other similar experience…even in the world of athletic endeavors and competitive sports, it is the imagination of the players that are at the root of what ultimately helps to create a core advantage for one of the athletes or one of the teams based upon their ability to prognosticate what the other opponent or team might do under specific circumstances. Prognostication requires significant imagination.
As someone who has made a career leveraging my imagination, I value this amongst my most treasured possessions and I work to exercise my imagination in as many ways as humanly possible.
Happy Saturday!
