Never respond to an angry person with a fiery comeback, even if he deserves it. Don’t let his anger become your anger.

BODHI SANDERS

Have you ever lashed out in a moment of anger?

How well did that work out for you, long-term?

We are often times triggered by the most arcane of stimuli and yet, if it happens to be the correct stimuli, it sends us off on a tangent in which we express what we might wish we had never expressed.

The ability for our intelligence to override such a reaction is a cultivated skill that aggregates collectively over time.

When we are determined and focused on trying to present ourselves to others as calm, rational, and measured, we are required to understand how and why our specific triggers are capable of causing us to react inappropriately.

This inner clarity could not be more important, for in that clarity of understanding comes the knowledge required to manage our emotions with a greater degree of sophistication, and thereby diminish the likelihood of our ever having chosen to lash out in any form of an inappropriate manner.

This could not be more imperative for us to learn when we are younger, and if we have failed that lesson repeatedly, life has a harsh way of teaching it to us in more certain terms.

When in doubt, write a response to yourself and email it to yourself. You get the thrill of pushing the send button and no one other than you will ever know. But whatever you do, do not ever (NOT EVER) start by putting the intended recipient in the receiving line of your email or text, for you might accidentally send something you may regret for a lifetime.

Happy Friday!
