You may not enjoy the discipline, but you will enjoy the results.

You may not enjoy the discipline, but you will enjoy the results.

How many times have you forced yourself to do something that you just did not want to do? Like skipping getting an ice cream when you really want one, for example.

When you evaluate the gain that came from maintaining your personal discipline and not yielding to temptation, what did you benefit from?

In the determination that we create, we build “character” through our willingness to dominate our temptations with pragmatic responses. Yet, while we are doing it, it often feels counterintuitive to just doing what we ultimately want to do. (That ice cream looked sooo good!)

When we get some sort of a personal threshold that gives us cause or reason to discard the behavior that we are looking to overcome in favor of a new perspective, in which we are ultimately willing to sacrifice part of our individual liberty in favor of a self-deployed plan to keep ourselves on the straight and narrow, we learn something critically important about ourselves that may not be discoverable through any other set of circumstances…and that is our capability as expressed through willpower.

Our individual willpower facilitates our ability to accelerate through tenuous circumstances with only mental energy, determination, and fueled by our own pride.

When our pride becomes omni powerful, it facilitates our ability to distill the unwise choice from our traditional regimen (sorry, no ice cream today) and sequester it into something perhaps for another day… but most certainly not for the moment right now.

When we have desire driving our core motivations, the rest ultimately seems to solidify into an overall behavioral game plan that can be marshalled through our mental forces paired with our visualization of what the future will look like upon our realization of whatever it is we have set our minds to accomplishing.

When you are capable of establishing those parameters, almost anything is possible.

But, as a good measure… every once in awhile. Have the ice cream anyway.

Happy Tuesday!
