SUN TZU

Do you watch out for your people?

When the going gets tough, are you pursuing your own self interests, or are you watching out for those who are in your inner circle?

The sign of true leadership is defined through many variables, and none was more on point on this topic than Sun Tzu.

Sun Tzu was a Chinese military general, strategist, philosopher, and writer who lived during the Eastern Zhou period (771–256 BC).

His treatise, The Art of War, defines the parameters of leadership, engagement with your opponent, perspectives on every form of strategy and is as relevant today in the business world as it was on the battlefield in China thousands of years ago.

The understanding of the need to watch out for your own, to accelerate into victory with measured response, calculation, anticipation and a clear understanding of the philosophies that motivate people, could not be more valuable for those who wish to accelerate their career and rise in prominence amongst their peers.

Every time I review the thoughts that Sun Tzu postulates, I find a new lesson waiting for me, depending upon what current circumstances I am navigating at that time.

Today’s aphorism rose to the top of my attention as I contemplated the massive decision facing the United States in 6 months. In that time, America will potentially abandon all of the philosophy that the grandparent generation gave their lives for, and allow the diseased insanity of fascism to take hold.

Given that yesterday was D-Day commemorating the troops landing at Normandy to kill the Nazi soldiers who were determined to hold the beachfront at all costs, it was readily apparent the disparity between the two potential leaders our nation is choosing between.

As a proud citizen of the United States, I find it terrifying that America could potentially spiral right out of control and into the hands of those who would break every law in order to impose their will on us.

A good commander is benevolent. They want the very best for their people. One who is subpar will focus entirely on what people think of them, whine about every little moment the justice system holds them accountable to the same laws that the other citizens must be held accountable to, and feed their messiah complex through every opportunity that circumstances provide, irrespective of the ramifications that their actions may cause to fall upon others.

Leadership is everything.

Happy Friday!
