The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance – it is the illusion of knowledge.
DANIEL J. BOORSTIN
As each generation comes to maturity, there is always a feeling that they are living in the most advanced of times. Everything seems so obvious that the prospect of something staggeringly different coming to fruition appears less likely with each and every new discovery.
In reality, this could not be further from the truth. With each and every new discovery, the mathematical permutations of what is now conceivably possible expands exponentially.
Our generation has lived through the most rapidly advancing era of humanity. It feels with each passing day that ever greater discoveries, accomplishments, innovations, inventions and thought processes materialize with ever increasing frequency.
It is far more likely that we, as humans, only know a very minuscule amount of what defines reality within the universe in which we live. In fact, we may mature to discover that there are an infinite number of universes and realities of which we could not even begin to comprehend.
When humanity tries to advance, it is continually confronted by isolated power groups who are determined to ensure that this expansion of knowledge must be thwarted at all costs.
In 1600, Giordano Bruno was sentenced to be burned to death by the Roman Inquisition for his heretical ideas, which he refused to recant. Bruno criticized and transformed a traditional Aristotelian theory of nature and helped revive atomism. His advocacy of Copernicanism and the claim that there is an infinite number of worlds was innovative. In metaphysics, he elevated the concepts of matter and form to absolutes so that God and creation coincide.
And they killed him for refusing to deny the truth.
When we study the path to genuine scientifically-based knowledge, it is almost always, without question, some party who has a financial interest or power interest in maintaining the status quo vs. accelerating into the unknown.
The tact they take in thwarting knowledge is by using false statements and facts and espousing them with full vigor and publicly-facing beliefs. I believe many of the orchestrators of such movements know deep within that they are screaming rhetoric for the benefit of their own selfish interest To them, it is an entirely different landscape.
The absolute truth is that the more you learn and believe you know, the more you realize how very little you truly know.
Happy Wednesday!
