Always be ready to survive alone. Some people change. Today you’re important to them but tomorrow, you’re nothing to them.

Are you relying upon others for your survival?

Have you come to depend on a specific person, company, organization, or nation to be the foundation of your existence?

In the course of this reliance, have you made the perhaps faulty presumption that they were, and will always be, a bedrock of your position in life?

When we are quick to make such presumptions, we must be ready and willing to contemplate what could potentially happen if they or it were no longer there.

This could be a reliance on a personal relationship, just as likely as putting all of your eggs in one basket in business.

As quickly as we are supposing a longevity, which is not necessarily a foregone conclusion, we might just as quickly discover that our suppositions were faulty, and that which we have come to depend upon, is no longer there.

There have been times in my career in which I have made this mistake and predicted certain relationships would last the test of time, but countless unforeseen variables transpire, rendering even the most predictable and reliable circumstances unstable and unlikely to continue.

How are we then best able to navigate our path between the expectations?

How might we best navigate the potential loss of stability that comes when something that was reliable is no longer so.

What is it in our internal demeanor that we might leverage to our greatest benefit knowing we are working towards a life of predictable stability and expectations?

In the end, freedom comes from the ability to recognize how and why variables in life may be less certain than we might at first have projected, in order that we might find our surefooted pathway into the future.

Happy Thursday!
