It’s up to all of us to be the antidote to the division.

It’s up to all of us to be the antidote to the division.

MICHELLE OBAMA

In a country that is so divided by the disparity of perceived truth, how might we all contribute to the prerequisite formula to facilitate healing the divide between our great nation?

When we are continuously working to maintain harmony within our own lives, what piece of the puzzle might each one of us play in order to put our country back on the path to peaceful prosperity for all?

I think the solution to this quandary starts with the prevalence of kindness, in which we are continuously looking for small subtle ways to engage with one another, using politeness, civility, and a determination to seek our greatest good through the continuity of our behavior amongst our friends, neighbors, relatives, and colleagues.

If we are willing to recognize that we are first and foremost citizens of the same country, seeking to find our prosperity and harmony by collaborating with our country men and women, we might ultimately learn that we are far more powerful operating in unison, rather than continually looking over our shoulder for fear that our neighbor might be willing to and destroy anything that we are cherishing.

If we are continuously working to ensure our relationships with one another are being directed with civility, diplomacy, courtesy, and intelligent restraint, we might ultimately, if for no other reason, then by eliminating the unnecessary friction in our own society, potentially find deeper collaboration with one another on a multitude of ways and therefore generate hope and enthusiasm.

If you missed Michelle Obama’s speech last night, I would highly encourage you to watch it, as her words were so poignantly and effectively delivered as to bring down the entire house and perhaps the nation at large, who was watching.

I think we forget in our political turmoil that we are only as strong as our country is unified and that our greatest enemies are seeking to destroy us by creating division amongst the ranks.

If everyone were to err on the side of kindness, we might actually recover all that makes us collectively proud to be American and use those collective strengths to our greatest mutual benefit.

Be a worthy politician this week and reach across the aisle to someone who sees the world through a different perspective. Strike up a discussion, avoid an argument and find common ground.

We love our families, our national parks, a beautiful sunrise, that first cup of coffee in the morning, the smell of a bakery, the wagging tail and smile of a friendly puppy…. we love so many of the same things. Try to focus on that.

Perhaps that is the antidote that Michelle so poignantly referenced last night.

Happy Wednesday!
