The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.

The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT

When you are in abundance, do you look to share some of your gain with others?

The scale of the abundance is insignificant in comparison to the underlying motive for your desire to do this.

When some of us are feeling as if our cup is far more than half full, and is on the path to overflowing, we work to help others share in our prosperity.

This may be done in countless ways, but at the end of the day, it is quite revealing as to our character and to the charitable nature of our personality.

As Roosevelt was leading the United States out of the Great Depression and into a new world of opportunity, he accomplished an impressive series of goals in which he wrestled with the powers that be in order that enough of our citizens might prosper from the economy that was emerging through his social efforts.

His expectation that he might empower our nation to be more generous with one another, and more nurturing in our behaviors are the foundation of a social imprint on our society that continues to this day.

His New Deal rescued the US from the throes of collapse and set the course for our nation’s infrastructure to be built, for our military to escalate in order that we were ready to help our European and Asian allies who were stuck in the insanity brought on by Hitler, Mussolini and Hirohito.

As he battled physical illness, he worked tirelessly to help navigate two of the greatest threats to our great democracy that our nation had ever faced. His perspective as to whether we are watching out for our fellow countrymen and women cannot be overlooked in our reflections as to how we as a nation have arrived at this point in history.

As he was dying, his last dictated words were, “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.”

As we work in our generation to escalate our great nation to ever increasing levels of opportunity, we benefit from reflecting on those insightful leaders who took issues to heart and worked their respective miracles to enable us to be freely standing where we are, with the myriad options we have upon which to grow and flourish.

Happy Monday!
