An umbrella can’t stop the rain, but it can let you stand in the rain. Confidence may not bring us success, but it gives us power to face any challenge in life.

An umbrella can’t stop the rain, but it can let you stand in the rain. Confidence may not bring us success, but it gives us power to face any challenge in life.

Sometimes you don’t need the entire solution, you just need an intermediary element that will facilitate your own ability to thrive, regardless of circumstance.

Over the course of a lifetime, we have all found ourselves in less than desirable moments. When these moments arrive, we are looking for resources that enable us to remain viable, regardless of whatever it is that we are facing.

There are times when the proverbial umbrella that provides cover against the torrential downpour is a person, other times it is a situation, other times it is one of your talents. Regardless of what the shelter is, our ability to leverage that to our greatest advantage could not be more important.

Unquestionably, one of the most powerful of all of these kinds of tools must be our confidence. Confidence enables us to stand up in the face of all adversity and stare fear directly in the face. It is only our continuing willingness to accelerate our internal bravado, that enables us to be able to progress far beyond the territory that we have previously inhabited. Only then are we most stable to accelerate headfirst into the unknown, jettisoning us ever further into the future that we know we are destined to achieve.

It is our internal focus and unrelenting intent that are the quintessential rocket fuel which empower us to take on all forms of adversity and emerge victorious out of circumstances heretofore unknown.

All of us entrepreneurs are out their flailing against the wind, hoping we do not get blown away. The opportunity to collaborate with another entrepreneur, rather than compete, elevates each of us to higher stature and status. Our karma banks refuel and our focus and determination accelerate in the face of all adversity, as a direct result.

This is all a function of confidence. It stems from an internal compass that recognizes we have two choices, succeed or fail. If we are prudent, secure, determined and confident…. The rest is a walk in the rain (with an umbrella).

Happy Friday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
