Don’t be afraid to start all over again. You may like the new story better.

Don’t be afraid to start all over again. You may like the new story better.

Have you ever had to start over from scratch?

The prospect of starting over can be both debilitating and demoralizing.

It creates anxiety that is founded in the fear of not truly understanding what the landscape ahead might ultimately prove to be.

But it does not have to be the end of the road… if anything, it is most likely, the very beginning.

We have moments in which we are forced to reckon with new chapters in life that we may not have bargained for. These come on personal and professional levels, and in each and every circumstance, it may very well threaten the foundation of everything that you have come to rely upon.

But, that being said, there is one component that you will most likely always be able to rely upon, and that is yourself. For if you are working regularly to mature on levels that require your attention in your life, you will slowly prepare yourself for the continuous stream of unexpected events, circumstances, and causes.

The choice to do self work on a daily basis, requires discipline and concentrated effort. These opportunities deliver us newfound strengths, upon which to build our resources and upon which we must rely, when or if circumstances in our personal or professional worlds are altered.

The prospect of starting over is intimidating to almost all of us, for in that choice, there is a presumption that quite a bit that we have leveraged in our lives, thus far, is being put aside so that we might begin with a clean slate and create a new path of destiny for ourselves.

But it really isn’t a clean slate, for we are still bringing with us all of the knowledge and life experience that we have garnered thus far. So even if the field in which we are newbies and newly focusing our efforts, is far astray from what we might have done previously, there will inevitably be a certain degree of overlapping variables, upon which we might ultimately leverage some of our prior knowledge and skills, and put them to the benefit of our new venture.

While this may not appear to be a very significant detail, especially if the new category of attention is vastly different than what had been achieved prior, you might discover a large percentage of the pieces of the puzzle you have amassed thus far, are actually quite valuable in your assessment and decision making process for the things that you will be working on.

When life provides you an opportunity to begin afresh, rather than seeing the situation as a cause for panic, perhaps a more, mature perspective, will be to view the situation as a cause for new growth and strength.

With that mindset, and those tools in your arsenal, there is a very distinct possibility that you may truly like your new story better than the last.

Happy Monday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
