Even if you go for it, and it doesn’t work out, you still win. You had the guts to head straight into something that scared you. That type of bravery will take you places.

POWER OF POSITIVITY

When was the last time that you went for something with all you’ve got, and it did not work out?

How did that feel?

Did it leave you out of breath and angry? Frustrated? Disappointed? Depressed? Whatever the resulting emotion was, in that moment of reflection, and the decision you make after that reflection, lies one of your greatest superpowers. Resiliency.

It would be very easy to presume that we can always just shake it off and let it go, but that is not always accurate, nor realistic. Depending upon how hard you put your efforts towards accomplishing that goal, the lack of realization of a goal is demoralizing and can have lifelong impact if you allow it to.

Far more prudent is to recognize that you had the guts to head straight into something that scared you. Get used to that feeling, it can be addicting and it can take you to the highest of outcomes if you continue to allow that to build within you.

So it didn’t work out this time. So what?

Does that mean the sum total of your life existence is going to amount to zero? Of course not.

So wouldn’t it be far more wise to recognize how close you came this time, and leverage that as a metric upon which you can continue to build your internal strength and your internal compass to enable you to stay completely focused on the next chapter of where you were going?

It is critical to remember that we are a continuous work in progress. There are unquestionably going to be setbacks and many of the setbacks are painful, either emotionally, financially, or otherwise. But the setback is actually a moment in which we are able to reflect, modify, and galvanize our fortitude, such that we will return and take on something even bigger, with even more of the right internal fire power to enable us to prevail in the next opportunity that arises.

If you lose, don’t lose the lesson.

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
