Is the average person capable of participating in self government?

In a rush to escape any form of authoritarian rule, there is an equally dangerous presumption that the will of the people should determine everyone’s outcome.

All of us have watched an interview on the news that leaves us scratching our heads metaphorically wondering how anybody could be that incredibly ignorant to reality.

I don’t care which side of the aisle you are on, there’s always that instance that you can point to and say to yourself thank God they are not in charge of making decisions that impact my life!

Homo sapiens are willful creatures with an overt reputation for doing what they want, regardless of what others perceive as reality.

How then, to self govern? There have been countless models for government that humanity has put forth over the course of time, none so brave or bold as the process/experiment we are living in currently in the United States.

So with the massive proliferation of instant media no longer in the hands of a few select parties, information is more rampant than ever before. This of course paves the way for vast volumes of inaccurate or completely false information to be disbursed, thereby creating multiple perceptions of the reality that we are all currently trying to navigate on a daily basis.

I think the United States is facing the biggest crisis it has ever faced since James Buchanan was the president and we were on the precipice of the Civil War.

It doesn’t matter how ignorant a person is, the last thing in the world I want to be seeing is a bravado statement from a less than intelligent human being who was bragging that they did not need a mask because this whole thing is a hoax, coupled with an obituary statement as to the day that they died. There is no satisfaction in seeing ignorant people suffer, rather there is fear that allowing a mass of ignorant people to completely run a system, can have long-term ramifications that are unconscionable.

The only solution to ignorance is education. The only way to continue to enable our democracy to survive is to insist upon a formidable education platform that facilitates each and every citizen an opportunity to develop enough brain cells to participate in our democracy, for without them, we might wake up in 2021 ruled by the will of zombies.

Perhaps not the happiest of thoughts for a Sunday, but there were more than 15,000 new cases of Covid discovered yesterday in Florida alone. If the leadership of this country does not model proper behavior, the ignorant citizenry become much more dangerous in their ignorance for lack of good judgment.

Just sayin’?

Happy Sunday!!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
