It all begins in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.

It all begins in your mind. What you give power to, has power over you, if you allow it.
The mind is truly a tricky beast at best. It can be your best friend and your worst enemy.
It can provide comfort as easily as it can perpetually torment you.
With any passing thought, your mind is an open canvas to change. The tiniest idea, concept, fear, hope, dream or expectation can change everything in the blink of an eye.
Take the moment when your world is going swimmingly and someone important in your world says… “I have something important to tell you. I’ll talk to you about it tonight.” Depending upon who has made this statement, your head will not be the same until that conversation has taken place. The fact that they are setting you up with such a statement puts your mind into a whirlwind of what ifs…. And of course, those could be positive hopes, or deepest fears, based upon who it is who has said it, and what their tone of voice was.
In your mind, the seeds of every aspect of your conscious and unconscious life are sewn. The hopes you are working towards, the fears you are avoiding, the expertise you have amassed, the diligence that you have demonstrated, and so on.
This storage vault of knowledge, experience, emotions, memories, hopes and fears is readily on tap for your access in the tiniest of moments. Sometimes that cacophony of information can be your greatest asset, and other times it can be the largest distraction that precludes your normal activities and behavior. In The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle teaches that you are not your mind, you are awareness. In his exercise to demonstrate this to you, you quickly discover that he is correct and that when you become quiet, you are an observer of your own mind. You are awareness and your mind is only part of your overall system of functionality.
This is important for it allows you a tool to work with when your mind is ablaze. If you get fully quiet and try to vacate the thoughts, your head clears enough to start getting a more objective opinion.
Conversely, the power of positive thinking enables you to traverse all obstacles. It gives you perspective, internal power, determination, focus, willpower and everything else that is required to accomplish what would appear at the outset to be impossible.
The key to today’s aphorism is the coda…if you allow it.
That is the huge secret, in four simple words. Mental onslaught comes from all directions, carrying countless distractions for our mind to forge in order that we may best accomplish what we seek in life.
At a certain point, if you are skilled, you can develop the ability to compartmentalize the things that disturb or distract you and channel your energy into more fruitful tasks at hand.
It is always your choice.
Happy Monday!
