It’s your road, and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it for you.

Wouldn’t be nice if we could call it in a couple days on the journey?

There are some days, I am certain, that we all would like to let someone else walk the road for us. Moments of fear, stress, pain, insecurity, doubt, frustration, anger, and trepidation are all likely to trigger such a deep feeling.

The reality is that we are slowly separated from our parents in our personal growth, and each stage of separation sets us up for the moments we must work through, mature and grow. As parents, we are so desirous of helping our children sort through all of the difficult chapters in life. Some are greatly required, and most are better served by allowing the children to mature, to prepare them for the days when we are no longer able to help out.

Owning full responsibility for our lives allows us to tackle each new chapter with ever greater skills, knowledge and capability. None of it is necessarily pleasant or desirable, but any full life comes with each of these chapters and we would be less than capable of taking any of them on, had we not prevailed on the previous chapters that challenged us. So the confidence that arises from having solved all of the problems prior to the current one, gives us a platform of resolve that enables the ability to dig in and find the courage to take on what the next challenge delivers.

As life delivers each chapter, I try my best to stay in the present. To focus on the optimism wherever it may present itself, and to bring to each challenge all that I have learned from my past battles.

Learning to stand on our own two feet is a skill set that takes years to fully master. And even then, the unforeseen can bring variables that force us to grow evermore.

Enjoy the road. Challenges and all. Your life can deliver a host of magic moments and those can only arise with your own ability to get out and make them happen. To believe in yourself and find that deep connection with your inner being that will stand by you in ways that no one else will ever be able.

Happy Tuesday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
