Life is so much simpler when you stop explaining yourself to people and just do what works for you.

Life is so much simpler when you stop explaining yourself to people and just do what works for you.

Do you march to the beat of a different drummer?

If so, do you find yourself having others suggesting you are off the track?

There are times in many of our lives in which we are feeling judged by others. We may feel this consciously, or subconsciously, whether others are actually judging us or not, but either way, there is a feeling that we are making choices predicated upon what others might think about those choices.

Is this necessarily the best approach?

Others do not know all of the same pieces of the puzzle that you do. They have not walked in your shoes, nor have they gone through the myriad of life experiences that have taken you to this moment.

Why then, are you enabling them to forecast their fears, trepidation and judgment on any choice that you might be making?

It is wise to seek the counsel of others. There are many times when we are certain that we are correct, and in a limited window of time, we see and discover that perhaps others had a perspective that we might have heeded, had we been more willing to listen.

It is a good idea to stay prudent, and to pay solid attention to outside perspective, wherever that might guide us. But simultaneously, there comes a point where we must make the ultimate decision for ourselves and allow all of the external opinions to become quiet in the recesses of our mind… in order that we might make our own, informed choice.

Once we hit that point of demarcation, we are at a new juncture in which we are informed, capable, and determined to make our own choices, and to seek our own personal destiny.

When you arrive at that moment in time, it is most wise to allow all of the voices from the outside to disappear, such that you may make your own move in whichever direction you feel is appropriate… even if you feel the road crumbling behind you in your wake.

In that action, you are self-directed and you are in complete control of wherever you are headed.

Own your own life and take responsibility for all the choices that you make. It’s the only certain way to get there.

Happy Sunday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
