Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.

Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.

WILMA RUDOLPH

What is the greatest dream that you aspire to?

When you project all of your dreams across the timeline, where do you see your greatest potential arriving and manifesting itself for everyone else to witness?

There are so many naysayers in the world. People who will marginalize you and your dreams as quickly as you can explain them.

If there has been one constant in the eight years that we have been building Sizzle, it has been a continuous stream of people schooling me on why the idea is too big or trying to teach me that (in their opinion) we are boiling the ocean and need to scale the vision back by 85% if we want any chance of success.

May I impart to you a valuable perspective that I have learned over the course of time?

When another party is trying to limit your dream, you need to understand that what they are doing is confessing their own trepidation and insecurity, as to whether they could accomplish that which you have just explained to them.

All of the naysayers that I have encountered along the way were ultimately confessing to me, subconsciously, that they would never be able to pull something of this magnitude off.

And each time anyone of them says it I just smile at them, and listen politely to what they have to say. I resist every inner desire to be smarmy and condescending in my reply, and most times I don’t say anything at all. Even if I want to respond that I am so fortunate to have the best collaborators in the world with whom to work, share, expand and invent together, in the end, it really doesn’t matter what any other person thinks. It only matters what you, yourself, think.

If every great inventor, athlete, musician, filmmaker, writer or anybody else who conjures energy from the external universe and marshals it into their creation, were to listen to all of the pitiful little people around them who are determined to rain on their parade, we would still be living in caves hoping to have a meal now and then.

All it takes is courage, faith in yourself, and an unshakable determination to aim for greatness on all levels. The rest just happens in the course of maintaining your personal discipline to stay on top of every single one of the variables that you are working within, and to defeat every single one of the obstacles that continues to stare you in the face. It’s just that simple.

Greatness is not an accident. It is the sum total of the fearless tenacity of the parties who are invoking it in the first place.

Happy Saturday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
