Obstacles can’t stop you. Problems can’t stop you. Most of all, other people can’t stop you. Only you can stop you.

When was the last time you got in the way of your own success?

We are unquestionably quick to pursue the things in life that will catapult us forward into a success, but there are numerous circumstances in which we, ourselves, become the single greatest obstacle to achieving it.

Are you aware of moments where you fight potentially sabotaging your own progress? Do you believe that there are ways that you might be able to stop replicating this behavior, and instead matriculate to a behavior that serves your greatest purpose?

In our work to achieve whatever goals we might be heading towards, we are often times finding ourselves head to head against a wide swath of obstacles. Some might be physical, others mental and others psychologically impeding for a host of different reasons.

How are we best able to recognize when we, ourselves, are becoming our single greatest adversary and more importantly, what is our remedy once we come to this recognition?

I believe the fastest way to get to this diagnosis, followed by a proper solution, is to take a step back and be as neutral and self-examining as we might possibly be.

In this examination, we are most likely to see the issues that continue to impede us, and even more importantly, recognize the ones that are truly our own. In doing such, we are able to rectify our own behavior, and turn those circumstances in our favor.

This takes a lot of courage, because recognizing how, and why you are holding your own self back from achieving everything you believe you are capable of achieving, is a substantial awakening.

Even more important, is whether or not, we are capable of leveraging this newfound information to our advantage, and ultimately leveraging all of our internal skills and capabilities to undo those variables, and to ultimately massage them in a direction that will better service our needs, long-term.

If you go through such a self examination and you are able to pinpoint how and why some of your single biggest impedances are originating internally, you are then forced by circumstance to look those issues squarely and determine what remedies you might be capable, or willing to employ, so that you might ultimately rise above the circumstances.

Happy Tuesday!

*Note… I have faced this question internally on many different topics over the course of my life. Each and every time, I am honest that I am the one holding myself back, there is only my own personal effort, belief and determination that I may rely upon to rectify this circumstance. I am willing to bet that many of you would share similar stories. What say yee…

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
