self respect

The self respect that you project is that which others are going to perceive. Every single one of us is plagued with self-doubt, it’s human.

That said, developing a healthy sense of self is critical to success. It should not be confused with an overwhelming dose of ego. Ego can be healthy or it can be out of balance and be incredibly destructive. But in the same way that I was discussing belief and faith yesterday, a healthy belief in one’s self is crucial to success.

Most of the time it only takes a couple doses of negative feedback from the right person (parent, spouse, teacher, employer) to initiate a reduction of belief in yourself and your self respect.

But in many cases, that negative feedback is really coming from an insecure human being who feels displaced by your radiance. As soon as you can discern the difference between constructive criticism and destructive insults, you are able to make the distinction between feedback that can help you grow and negative stimuli that you need to repel.

I work to treasure everybody in my world for the special qualities I see in them that gives me cause to wish to be their friend and to maintain an ongoing communication pathway.

My choice to spend one hour of my morning every day delivering these musings has nothing to do with personal ego or satisfaction. My motivating factor is that I enjoy delivering connectivity and thoughts that trigger deeper thought and which help my friends increase their self respect. That interconnection between us is a valuable asset to me and has become even more so as I have become so incredibly isolated in my post COVID-19 existence.

I’m glad we communicate, and that you are my friend? Thank you???

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Have you ever lost sight of your self respect and then found it again?

And above all things, never think you’re not good enough yourself. A person should never think that. My belief is that in life, people will take you at your own reckoning. – Isaac Asimov

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
