The measure of your life is the amount of beauty and happiness of which you are aware.
ANGEL FEATHERS TICKLE ME
Do you regularly take the time to appreciate the beauty around you, and allow it to fill you with happiness?
Beauty can be found in countless forms: physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, and so on.
In the course of our daily lives, we are exposed to beauty in so many different packages that it ultimately boils down to whether or not our awareness is heightened to appreciate the beauty which we may encounter.
If we remain myopically focused on the minutia details which must be dealt with and accomplished over the course of our daily routine, we might ultimately miss large swaths of beauty that were right there in front of us, just waiting to be noticed and appreciated.
When we are tuned in to looking for such beauty, we start to notice semblances of such, in countless places around us, just waiting for our recognition and appreciation.
There was a time in which I was driving through the French alps, and I was winding up a large mountain, stuck behind a log truck that was moving at almost no speed. Finally, after 45 minutes of being stuck behind this seemingly oppressive vehicle, my opportunity arose, and I passed the truck on my way to freedom… and as I came around the next corner, there was a small church in the middle of a rich green Alpine Meadow with nothing else around it. The sky was dark black rain clouds, and there was one intense beam of light coming down from the sky, shining directly down on the church. It was truly heavenly! But, I had waited so long to get past that log truck, I did not stop to take the picture and I have regretted that moment for decades, because the photograph would’ve been absolutely spectacular!
When you look at life through that filter, I would much rather have had decades of enjoying that photo, than the extra 25 minutes that perhaps I would’ve lost, had I fallen behind that large truck for a second time.
My lesson in all of that was that if you don’t take the time to prioritize the beauty in life, you are truly missing some of life‘s greatest chapters.
We are all working so hard to make our lives complete, and to be caring and nurturing to those who rely upon us for such. Yet somewhere in our daily regimen, there has to be some room for us to pause and greatly appreciate, how extraordinarily beautiful life truly can be, and to enjoy those moments as often as we may.
*editor’s note… my description to AI did a fairly decent job of creating an image that further visually evoked what I was so fortunate to see in person.
