Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams and take risks. Life is happening now.
What exactly are you waiting for?
For that right moment in your life? The weather to change? The opportunity to present itself? For the kids to get older?
Whatever your answer, perhaps you might be better served rethinking that.
Life is a banquet, but there is no guarantee that whatever is placed out for your taking at this moment, will still be on the banquet table when you decide to show up.
There are myriad reasons why the things in your world that seem so solid and dependable today are not as certain as they may appear. Sometimes, things you could never have predicted will come along and wipe the opportunity away in the blink of an eye.
In my career, I have been blindsided by the tidal wave in Sri Lanka, Hurricane Katrina, the housing collapse of 2008, the horror of 9/11, Covid, and the Writer’s Strike of 2007, to name a few.
So if there was any lesson to be learned from so many disparate circumstances, it was that we have opportunities and their windows are narrow. We may opt to hold our cards close to chest and not pursue the bigger pictures, or we may take a big, deep breath and just go for it.
This is not to say that sometimes it is not proper to wait for the right moment, for in many cases, this also proves to be true. There are times in a bear or bull market where very specific choices could not be more important. In making a deal of magnitude, there are moments where the deal must move forward and other times where you are wise to lay low for a bit and let certain details settle into place.
But as a life philosophy, you could not be more well advised than to seize the day. Find that courage to take the big first step and launch your dreams into definitive action.
Given that the present is the only real experience, the concept of tomorrow or the next day are exactly that… a concept. They almost always prove to be true for everyone, but given mortality, illness, accidents and other unforeseen variables, they do not hold true for everyone all the time.
So the next time you are vacillating about making your big next step, contemplate all of the variables, take inventory of your most precious assets, weigh the options and if things appear to be in your favor, then take the big plunge and just catapult yourself into your future.
Life is happening right now. So make it count.
