The comeback is always stronger than the setback.

Unquestionably, the blow that knocks us back on our butts is one that is both shocking and devastating. It takes the wind out of our sails, and delivers us to a place of shame, disappointment, fear and drops us in the unknown.

Then, in all of that despair and trepidation, something magical happens. We hit rock bottom. We know we have sunken to the depths of our greatest fear, and find ourselves staring into the abyss, unable to find focus, direction, motivation or energy.

As we weather these emotions, we are inevitably left with an empty tank (or so we think), devoid of the proper motivation to emerge from this doom and gloom.

But after staying in this chasm for a period of time, it wears on us in the best of ways. We remember how good things were and how strong we have been. We see glimmers of that same being in our eyes when we look in the mirror, regardless of how dispirited we may feel deep within.

That internal spirit speaks to us, begging us to release it from our internal mental prison and just let it loose on the world stage again. It reminds us of all we have already accomplished. It starts to bargain with us and offer compromises that will become the stepping stones out of this dark chapter and into a new, brighter future. It reminds us that with proper support, we are capable of being glorious again.

In a progressive series of thoughts leading to actions, leading to new thoughts, we find a magical ladder that appears out of nowhere and slowly we begin our ascent.

That rise in elevation warms our soul, for we are no longer at rock bottom and we are now on our path to becoming our newer, and more improved self. With each rung on the ladder, we reinforce how great it feels to be on that ladder, and remind ourselves how horrible it was to be on rock bottom.

Our thoughts change, giving way to a better attitude. Our opinions develop in our favor, giving further fuel to propel what is now becoming a clear movement in the right direction.

As our former selves start to recognize themselves, and those fears fade into the rearview mirror, we realize that we are now so far down the road of success, we are never going back to the bottom again.

The light grows stronger, the momentum faster, the will, more determined.

And one day, we have arrived to a higher place than that from which we fell.

But there is one distinct difference.

From having gone through such a metamorphosis, we learn that we are much stronger than we had ever imagined. And we discover that we appreciate things that we may have taken for granted prior to our having gone through this quantum change.

If you are in a setback, it is only your mind that will solve it. No one is coming to save you. You have to do it yourself.

Happy Thursday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
