Those who do not believe in magic, will never find it.

ROALD DAHL

Do you believe in magic?

Magic is around us everywhere, all the time.

Regardless of whether or not you believe in magic, it is so readily clear in so many categories of life, as to make most people wonder why everyone does not see it.

If you look into the eyes of something that loves you, whether that might be a person or an animal, you can see direct proof of the magic right there, in their eyes. The eyes are the windows of the soul, and inside the soul lies an innate quality that has never been accurately, nor scientifically delineated, and yet… it is the essence of each and every one of us and omnipresent.

In other fields, magic presents itself through serendipity. The choice and opportune moment for two things, or people or events or circumstances to interact with one another, often times creates an alchemy that had not been predictable in advance of those events transpiring. That alchemy is truly magical, for it has no ultimate basis, yet it has every possibility of being as fortuitous or opportune as possible.

Magic arises in the self delusion that we put ourselves through in the course of trying to elevate our personal or professional status beyond that which currently exists. In that elevation, we find ourselves, growing wiser, stronger, more capable of achieving that which was nearly impossible to us a short while prior.

Is this truly magic? Or is it perhaps the way the world works and it appears as if it were magic when viewed from the outside? The reality is that as we apply ourselves to whatever goals or expectations we are working towards, we find ourselves on a progression that is quantifiable, that the other parties who are not paying attention or not witnessing the progression, are missing. All they see, is the marked improvement that has transpired, whereas from the perspective of those who are doing the hard work, it is not magical at all. It is a direct consequence of having applied ourselves to the task at hand.

If you don’t believe in magic, perhaps you might want to modify that thought just enough to allow for the fact that magic is within you each and every waking and sleeping moment of your life, and through that magic, so many wonderful new chapters of your life have ultimately evolved.

Happy Wednesday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
