When there’s a setback, someone with a fixed mindset will start thinking, ‘Maybe I don’t have what it takes?’ They may get defensive and give up. A hallmark of a successful person is that they persist in the face of obstacle, and often, these obstacles are blessings in disguise.

When you are staring into the abyss of the unknown, and the road seems untenable, what are your options?

Do you look at the impasse and decide to call it a day, or do you envision how you might forge that path?

We are all going to encounter moments like this, regardless of how safe and secure one plays their cards in life, the impasse will always show up. It is the nature of existence.

We are then challenged to learn who we truly are, and devise our method across the void, or we shrivel backwards into whom we have already become and either find refuge in that being, or comfort in the fact that we are not going to brave the new territory with the courage and determination needed to find a way. Regardless of what it appears at the outset.

I fell in love with this image because it reminded me of Winky Dink. Most of you are too young to remember Winky Dink, but they were 60+ years ahead of their time. Winky would come to an impasse, and you would place the plastic screen on your tv and draw a bridge for Winky to go across. Sadly, a lot of kids did not have the screen, so they drew right on their parent’s television set!  That of course lead to the show being cancelled.

Sizzle is currently making the magic screen for the television set as part of our new suite of tools in our Watch section.  This screen correlates to the tv and allows our users to purchase, play games, vote, download content and much more from the television set.

If you are trained that every impasse is a chance to grow, your perspective in life changes. You see the obstacles as a challenge, regardless of how ominous that they may appear to be.

I believe that one of the core classes in schools should be called overcoming obstacles. I am hoping to build such a class on Sizzle for people to take. Obstacles come in many shapes, sizes, forms, people, circumstances and experiences.

How we choose to perceive them will shape our destiny. So understanding that an obstacle may carry a gift for you in its arms is a much healthier way to envision it, than as a permanent impedance that will prevent you from ever achieving your goal.

As Monte Irvin states… Early in life I learned, just through observation, that right always wins out over wrong. If a person has good intentions in his heart and wants to do the right thing, then there are certain ways that any obstacle can be overcome.

Get your heart in tune, and leverage your best efforts because when a person meets an obstacle that they cannot overcome, they destroy themselves in the process.

Pick your sorry butt off the ground and get over the impasse. That’s all there is to it.

Happy Friday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
