You want to change your life? Change the way you think.

Perspective and perception are about as powerful as any force in life.

They convince us a glass is half full or half empty… and all of the permutations of such.

With life full of so many variables as to leave all of us guessing, supposing, and predicting, the option of how we choose to think could not be any more important. Our thoughts take us to our outermost boundaries and beyond. They conjure imagination, creativity, and interpret same when exposed to others.

Conversely, a thought is capable of creating controversy where none exists. It can create an argument where none is required and foster a jealousy where none should reside.

Given the interpretative nature of thought, an understanding of how and why we think as we do, could not be more important in our day to day strategy. If you want to find a controversy, you will surely find it. If you seek conflict, it will occur and if you wish to be disagreeable, that quality is always in your arsenal.

Insight into our daily behaviors give us opportunity to look within, to discover our vulnerability, to recognize our shortcomings and to reflect on countless choices made that might have been wiser with proper perspective.

Our minds propel us to greater achievement, accelerating to ever increasing heights of experience and engagement.  They enable us to solve the most difficult problems and to overcome obstacles that seem at face value to be impossible.

So an understanding of this power, and the resulting perceptions that accompany it, could not be more important to the shaping of our current circumstances, and in the planning and creation of our future. If you are capable of knowing the triggers that take your mind off track, you are more readily able to prevent them from trodding upon your ongoing successes. This may be accomplished by staying very present and watching where your mind is vacating its role as your champion and instead assuming the role of the saboteur.

If you can spot the trigger that takes your mind from ally to foe, you can create preemptive plans that facilitate your ability to know that the saboteur is about to strike, and create a neutral zone for you to sit within until your more rational mindset has returned. This one learned skill could not be more valuable in life. Your ability to harness the power of your mind, without enabling it’s darker recesses is the secret that the most successful people have mastered. They have the same rash emotions as you and I, but they are considerably more likely to compartmentalize the triggers that come at them through their minds, in order that they may achieve that which they have set out to do.

At the end of the day… life is all in how you look at it.

When things look great, rejoice and feel the gratitude.

When things look dim, change your perspective and fix the issue at hand.

Happy Monday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
