Only people who are unhappy with themselves, are mean to others.  Remember that.

The real problem with most bullies, is that they are deeply unhappy individuals who are working their very best to bring everybody else down to their level, so that they might feel normal.

If you take time in your life to pay attention to those who are unkind, you will almost certainly discover a deep-seated unhappiness within them. They are subconsciously attacking and maligning others in order to spread the pain in some distorted perspective that by doing so, they will fit in with those that they have hurt.

If you are comfortable with where you are in life, and you are determined to be a kind human being, then you are in position to generously spread some of that kindness to others. When you encounter somebody who is acting in discord to that thought process, you have one of two choices… You might reach out and gently see if there’s something you might be able to do, that will make their lives happier or you might realize that that is not a task that is within your range of accomplishment, in which case you might be better served to avoid them at all costs.

The world is unquestionably an unequal set of variables, and only certain people are given ample opportunity to find that degree of happiness within their life experience. While it may not be equally distributed, there are many who rise above negative variables in their lives, and are still fully capable of living a very happy and joyous life.

So the next time you encounter someone acting mean towards you or someone you care about, take their true motive into consideration as you determine your proper course of action.

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
