Change in a lifestyle is arduous. A person becomes set in their behavior. It’s as natural as any of the body rhythms. We seek our respective comforts, beliefs, experiences, relationships, friendships, employment, and choices of escape.

Life continues for a period of time and periodically there are road markers that serve to potentially awaken ourselves to the fact that perhaps we are lost in a cycle that is not in our own best interest. Time for a change?

But once we have grown accustomed to our cycles, it becomes ever more difficult to break them and change, does it not?

We are our single greatest enemy in that regard….once we have found comfort in something, it becomes ever more difficult to take that quantum step backwards and see it as a definitive choice that we are making, day after day after day, rather than seeing it as a variable in our life that we would be much better served by changing.

Change requires self discipline, belief in oneself, and a desire for something better that supersedes the cycle of comfort that has made something part of our daily routine.

My experience during the Covid lockdown gave me ample opportunity to reflect on many of the cycles in my own existence and allow me to rethink a few of them during these three months of withdrawal from the regular patterns of life.

Self-control is far less fun than self indulgence, but far more often, self-control leads to greater happiness long-term than self indulgence. The stress of the world we are experiencing right now is enough to drive anyone to some form of escape. But making a change to balance that escape with nutrition, exercise, meditation, strong values and compassion strikes me as the winning solution. Wishing you a beautiful Tuesday full of joy, happiness and reduced stress???

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Has your self respect given you ammunition to make a change in your daily routine?

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
