important agenda

An important agenda does indeed necessitate action. In all forms of fiction, the hero is almost always an individual living a normal life, that is called into larger than life circumstances (mostly without them having cause or a reason to be in the circumstances in the first place).

In reality, it is fairly similar and that’s why fiction is so compelling. At some point in our lives, we find ourselves in larger than life circumstances, i.e. our important agenda. These require our focus on a level that we were not expecting to have to endure.

At that moment, a decision is made…is this agenda important enough to warrant taking chances that are not necessarily in one’s favor?

What we learn from the hero story is that heroism is created directly out of altruism. A hero story is not compelling if the hero is only acting in their own interests.

In reality, it is very much the same. When the larger than life moment appears on one’s doorstep, it is usually an altruistic choice as to whether or not one will step up to the plate and do what needs to be done, regardless of the odds.

The greatest heroes in life and in fiction, are most often individuals who had no aspiration to be heroic in the first place. More often than not it is just a person with a heart and a mind that is in the right place and is capable of making a snap decision to act accordingly in the face of an obviously important agenda. As our world goes through this catharsis, we need heroes more than ever. Here’s hoping that when that moment shows up on each of our doorsteps, we have the courage to do the right thing, regardless of the odds???

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Have you found yourself in a larger than life moment that necessitated your critical attention? What choices did you make?

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
