Words have magic. Spells and curses. Some of them, once said, change everything.

Have you ever said something that you regretted instantly? Something that you could never take back and which changed everything?

It is an eventuality. Once done, an opportunity for a life lesson comes knocking on your door and presents you with the opportunity to grow and evolve…. But most of the time, we do not.

Sometimes, the opposite is true. In these moments, someone will say something to us, or we share something with another that adds incredible wealth and value as to leave a lifetime memory.

Since Homo sapiens were able to communicate abstract thought using words, the power of the word has grown exponentially. One word from the right or wrong person can mean life or death, success or failure, and so much more.

I was raised to believe that kind thoughts were always meant to be shared. I try to ascribe to that behavior on a daily basis.

Conversely, I live with a handwritten sign in front of my computer that reads:

Black belts keep their mouths closed.

This serves as my not so subtle reminder/reprimand to myself that in business and most things… unkind or other off-color thoughts are best left unsaid and never implied.

When you have something warm and genuine to share, watch how amazing your impact is on another for your effort in sharing it. Some, once said, do change everything.

Happy Wednesday!

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
