You can’t change what’s going on around you until you change what’s going on within you.

Frame of mind is frame of reference for everything in life. If you lose your footing in these areas, everything else suffers considerably.

Over the course of a lifetime, we encounter numerous moments in which everything that we hold to be accurate, changes…Personally, professionally and on a global scale.

During these tumultuous moments of change, everything else in our world becomes vulnerable in ways that we would not likely anticipate. All it takes is a crisis at home, a crisis of health, or a crisis of significance in the world, and everything we assume is part of our reality, may suddenly cease to be reliable.

Exploring how and why these make us feel the way they do is one of the first steps of resolution. We work diligently to maintain stasis in a world that is perpetually in evolution. Perhaps it would be wiser to stay in a mindset of anticipation of those evolutions so that we might best find our own pathway through them.

In the course of trying to design a technology of the future, we look to consistencies in human behavior which are least likely to change and we cater to those because they are some of the core foundation that make these kinds of opportunities come to life with predictability.

I am currently listening to a book entitled, Hooked, in which they spell out how some of the things that make us love social media go all the way back to caveman times more than 1 million years ago. That is tribal acceptance and appreciation. (Likes and social status buttons earned for accomplishment, for example). So understanding the specie is very important to us in business and to me as an individual trying to keep my life on a track that I enjoy and appreciate.

People are resistant to change, that’s a natural variable. Change most usually occurs when something either accelerates the ease with which a person can accomplish something or it comes from moments where a person is no longer able to do what they had been able to do previously.

In either circumstance, a consumer is more likely to adapt or learn…when the necessity to do so stands in between them and what they ultimately wish to be doing. Take the quick response code for example. Many people had no idea how to use them until they became a new way of ordering food at a restaurant (post covid) that wants to show you their menu without requiring something physical that you can touch.

On a more philosophical level, it is impractical to expect somebody to effectuate a change in the world when they are battling a change of magnitude within. If you are feeling embattled and overwrought with variables that are too demanding of you and your life, you are most certainly not alone. Western culture shoehorns us into this mindset/lifestyle and peer pressure and internal drive does all of the rest.

If you are ready to make a real change to what is going on around you, then your first step is to be certain that you are on very solid footing with all that is going on within you. It sounds so very simple in a sentence and can be so overwhelming complicated in real life practice. Almost everything I muse about in the morning, are all pieces of the puzzle to getting on solid footing with what goes on within you. There are so many chapters and so many variables to learn to keep in stasis.

Happy Sunday! As I write this, I am walking alone on a beach that will be full of people in a few hours, but for right now, it is all mine.

When I was 5 years old, I discovered that the lemon tree in the backyard + dixie cups + water and sugar and I was in business. I have been hooked on that ever since. In 1979, I borrowed $14,000 to create a brand new product... photographic greeting cards with no text on the inside, called Paradise Photography. That was the start of The Illusion Factory. Since then, The Illusion Factory has been entrusted by all of the major studios and broadcasters with the advertising and marketing of over $7 billion in filmed, live, broadcast, gaming, AR, VR and regulated gaming forms of entertainment, generating more than $100 Billion in revenue and 265 awards for creativity and technology for our clients. When I took a break from film school at UCLA to move to Hawaii, my mother did not lecture me. Instead, she took 150 of her favorite aphorisms and in her beautiful calligraphy, wrote them artistically throughout a blank journal. That is the origin of the Lessons from the Mountain series. Since then, on my journeys to the top of a mountain to watch the sunrise, I have spent countless hours contemplating words of wisdom from the sages of all races, genders and political persuasions, constantly accumulating the thoughts to guide me on my life path. I hope you enjoy my books. Please let me know your thoughts, as I highly value your feedback!
